My kids won't gut the pumpkins either. We still don't have grass at our new house, so the kids play in the dirt, mud, and their speciality...splashing in mud puddles and rolling around in them. But pumpkins? No they are too yucky!
It's fun to see how the pumpkins turned out! I think part of the pumpkin aversion is the smell--and, of course, the slime. Yuck!
I didn't carve a Jack-o-lantern this year for that very reason. I knew that I would have to be the one taking the guts out of the pumpkin. The boys might have helped a tiny bit until they got grossed out. They are just interested in the actual carving.
